Bring the carrots! We have stayed in the Buffalo Bungalow twice, but this time we brought the children and stayed in Bison Overlook. It was an awesome time watching the kids go up to the fence to pet and feed the mini horses and little goats!  This is an absolutely beautiful place!!  We’ll be back again!  February 2017

Great Cabin w/ lots of amenities!

Bison Escape was very comfortable and secluded cabin. Lots of privacy; close to the main farm. We loved seeing the bison getting their breakfast oats. There were 2 horses pasturing in an area directly next to our driveway and we had a great time every day feeding them apples and carrots through the fence. They were our dear friends by the time we left!!! Loved the hot tub, the front veranda and luscious views into nearby meadows. Very relaxing… September 2016

Tatonka Lodge, August 2016

We had a family reunion this summer and stayed a week at Tatonka Lodge and had a great time. The playground is just a few minutes walk for the kids and the animals just a little bit further, so they were happy campers. The downstairs playroom was also a welcome diversion for them, and the competitive adults. The location seems remote, but Lake Junaluska, Maggie Valley, and Waynesville is a short drive away. Of course we also made our way to Asheville a few times.
Some of the reviews had us concerned about the steep driveway, and it looks pretty daunting on your first drive up. But after a few runs, even my 89 year old mother had no problems with it.
The only problems we experienced were, 1) getting the TV to come on and sync with the Dish (the instructions didn’t help), and 2) modem not accessible to reset after a storm knocked out power. Fortunately someone was able to get them taken care reasonably quick. Thank you Cheryl for a great time, we’re sending our friends your way.

Excellent Anniversary Retreat!

We spent a wonderful week at Buffalo bungalow during our 54th wedding anniversary everything at the Bungalow was perfect for couples. The back deck with a beautiful view and also goats and horses that came and ate at the base of the deck. We really enjoyed watching the Buffalo feeding almost so close we could reach out and touch. What an adventure we had a wonderful time on this special vacation at a very special location. Joyce & Chimer August 30th, 2016

Timber Hollow is very spacious, clean, and private. It’s exactly as advertised, only better. Cheryl, the host, is helpful and responsive –exactly what I want in a great host. I’ve stayed at other places in the vicinity, and this is certainly the best. It’s family owned and located on a large bison ranch, which also includes goats, rabbits, llamas, and miniature horses. Moreover, it’s not one rental stacked on another rental. Generally, I retreat to the Smoky Mountains once every other year or so to get away from the city, and there’s nothing worse than showing up to your rental, only to learn that it’s one cabin stacked on another. I will certainly come back next year for my yearly vacation to the Smoky Mountains. I highly recommend Timber Hollow/Buffalo Creek Vacations.  8/16/2016

Greatest Vacation at Bison Overlook Lodge

I just can say that a week was not enough for my family. This place is so amazing that we didn’t want to leave. My kids loved the cabin, specially the playroom. We live in Miami and that was the first time for my children in a place where nature is everything. I really recommend it if you want to get away from the noise and stress. Buffalo Creek Vacation is just a few miles from Asheville. The cabin was equipped with Cable TV and WiFi Internet. If you really want to disconnect, all you have to do is turn the devices off. Perfect Getaway!

We made it back to Wisconsin today, but we wish we’d had more time at the Buffalo Bungalow!! The cabin and surrounding property were so beautiful! We loved seeing all of the animals, and the feeling of being secluded! The hot tub on the porch was definitely our favorite thing about our stay. We were able to watch a storm roll in, while under the protection of the wrap around porch! Thank you so much for taking great care of us, we hope to come back (soon!) in the future!

Honeymoon

We booked the Buffalo Bungalow for our honeymoon. It was absolutely perfect. The cabin was gorgeous and beautifully decorated. It had everything we needed. We enjoyed the hot tub, the awesome shower, fire pit and grill. We got up one morning and watched Cheryl and her dad feed the bison – Don’t miss this! We also got to feed and pet some goats and pet some llamas. You seriously can’t beat this cabin! Only 25 minutes from Asheville! Cheryl and her husband were so accommodating and helpful. Great communication. Oh, and dog friendly!!! Thanks for an awesome honeymoon!

Great Family Retreat-Summer 2016

Excellent cabin! Great customer service! It was very quite and secluded but still reasonably close to asheville, maggie valley and Cherokee. We went to watch the Bison get feed, definitely a must! Cheryl even provided a small amount of firewood, perfect for an evening or two of Smores. The game room was great, the kids loved it. The hot tub was very relaxing, just make sure to check the temp as soon as you get there. It is cleaned and refilled after every stay so the temp is most likely adjusted down. The playground is neatly tucked away in the woods just down from the top of a hill. It is a good play area and the hike was not to bad. I’m pretty sure the OLDER KIDS (adults) enjoyed the scenery more. Will certainly be back

August 2016, Theresa’s Review

“ We wanted to experience something with our seven year old that would be exciting and unique for all three of us, and this fit the bill perfectly! Cheryl was always right on it with answers to our questions, the caboose was as cool as I’d hoped, the details are perfect, it’s a super cozy luxe suite with a loft our son adored, we all loved seeing the grazing buffalo right outside and the animals including lamas just a short walk away! I would highly Recommend the caboose for a unique adventure and fun for all! ”

Here’s what Cindy T. had to say:

“Our family just returned from an incredible trip to the caboose at Buffalo Creek! This was so different from a hotel experience. It felt like camping, but with air conditioning and indoor plumbing – perfect for us! The kids connected to nature in a way that would have been hard to do at most other accommodations out there. Our hosts were welcoming and responsive to all our questions and needs. The caboose was very comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the grounds immensely. We watched the bison, fed the other animals, hiked to the playground, roasted marshmallows, and watched the stars come out. My children (6 and 9) can’t stop talking about this magical adventure and asking when we can return. Our son has asked me to print pictures of the caboose to hang in his room, and our daughter is busy writing poems and stories about the bison, llamas, goats, miniature horses, and bunnies she met. We all really enjoyed our time in this unique spot, and we most definitely will return! ”

Family Vacation, Howard 6/9/19

Our family vacation at Bison Overlook was AWESOME!!! The cabin was beautiful and fit our family nicely. We enjoyed everything about the location especially the great surprise of the animals. We had our little grandson with us and he fell in love with the animals. We most definitely will stay here again if given the chance. I highly recommend Bison Overlook to everyone. Cheryl was such a great person to deal with and helped with any needs we had. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to experience such a wonderful vacation area!!

Amazing Views & Quiet Location, Donnita, 5/12/16

We loved our stay at Bison Overlook Lodge! We were there to attend our Daughter’s wedding up the road 3 miles from our location. Steve, who was there on site was Fantastic, and was there to help with anything we needed. This Cabin was great for our getaway! Definitely would be staying at the property again. The kids loved the Llama’s, Miniature Horses, Goats, Rabbits, and the Bison. Such an nice place to get away and relax! Thank you Cheryl and Family for sharing this property with us. We look forward to upcoming getaways with Buffalo Creek Vacations!!

Perfect Romantic Getaway

WOW. Buffalo Bungalow certainly exceeded our expectations, what an amazing place to get away and relax!! My husband and I enjoyed our honeymoon very much at this perfect, little piece of paradise tucked away in the mountains. We can’t stop raving about how wonderful the cabin and property was to all our family and friends! Everything was so clean, neat, and intentional. The owners do everything they can to make you feel relaxed and at home! We really enjoyed soaking in the hot tub, making a couple campfires, and just being surrounded by the stunning mountains every day. Amazing. Exploring the property, the farm, and feeding the animals was so much fun!! Best vacation we’ve ever had. Literally, the only thing that could’ve been better with the cabin was the water pressure on the one shower head. That’s it, though. Everything was so beyond perfect! What a treat, we will definitely be back! Thank you so much for a fantastic vacation, Cheryl & Family!

If you are looking for a special place where you can go exploring either off or on the property, then I highly recommend Buffalo Creek Vacations. We stayed on the property and enjoyed the animals, hiking and grilled out as well as explored Soco Falls which is about 25-30 minutes away. Thank you again and can’t wait to come back. P.S. Please tell your mom and dad thank you for sharing their history and the history of the farm with us. It made it extra special.”

We loved Bison Escape!

The cabin had everything we needed, plus homey extras that made the initial “move in” easier. The main floor master was perfect for the grand parents and our 3 teenagers had plenty of space in the kid’s room. Having a master bedroom upstairs and down stairs was perfect for our family!
I was impressed with the game room – even when we had music playing in there, the main part of the house couldn’t hear it!
The location is perfect for visiting nearby attractions. We enjoyed day trips and made it home for dinner almost every night.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the buffalo!…and the goats and bunnies and horses and llamas…The kids (and adults) got a big kick out of feeding and petting the animals. We really enjoyed watching the bison get their breakfast, we even got to see a little rough-housing one afternoon (actually, it looked like they were playing tag!).
I highly recommend Buffalo Creek Vacations, we are looking forward to returning!

Grandson loved it!

My grandson and I stayed in the Caboose for one night. Everything was clean and very comfortable. This little caboose is finished out so nicely, from the granite counter tops to the heated tile floor in the bath. My grandson will never forget this experience; how many times do you get to sleep in a train car while looking out your window at bison grazing! So unique!

Great fun & lovely digs

Spent a great night in the new Caboose- accommodations were clean and well appointed- granite counter tops, digital television, and quirky details that make you smile. We spent the day at the Biltmore then drove to Buffalo Creek – it was easy to to find- directions were excellent. After a walk to check out the farm animals, we relaxed and had a great nights sleep – the beds were super comfy. All the animals were even more spunky in the morning – and the hi light was watching the buffalo come on into the corral for the morning feeding. The host was incredibly responsive. Answered all my questions quickly. The ranch is set in a beautiful part of the country, and since I love animals – so I would definitely return. I highly recommend – a great treat that will make you smile.

1st Caboose Review!

“We had the honor of being the first guests on the Seaboard Coast Line, and it was beyond awesome! We have a toddler who can attest. It’s very comfortable with as many amenities as a caboose could possibly offer. The standout feature is the loft space…and of course, waking up to a beautiful view of a herd of bison on the hill. Cheryl and her family were very friendly, communicative, and accommodating. We had a wonderful wonderful time. ”

Relaxing…

My husband and I had an amazing weekend at Buffalo Bungalow! We enjoyed the views and everything the cabin had to offer! They have really thought of every little detail and made for a relaxing and stress free stay!

Buffalo Bungalow:

What a hidden treasure you have created at the Buffalo Bungalow! We couldn’t have found a more perfect (romantic) place to celebrate our 25th anniversary! Thank you for all the wonderful amenities and the personalized signs welcoming us for our anniversary. The little touches really added to the experience. (The smores were an added treat!) We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the property, the farm and all the animals. The staff were all very personable and friendly and shared many great stories of the property and the new construction taking place on the cabooses. We look forward to returning with family and friends to rent a larger cabin.

Bison Overlook Lodge …

Is a great place for couples, families, and/or friends to unwind and reconnect. From the youngest who was 10 months old and up, there was something for EVERYONE to do. The cabin was WONDERFUL and exceeded our expectations. The deck was beautiful for sitting, relaxing, reading a book, and watching the sunset/sunrise. The hot tub was wonderful and used daily. The swinging bed was so comfortable and rocked us to sleep each night. We loved watching the animals and the scenery was absolutely beautiful!! We especially appreciated the “Smores Basket” and welcome sign that greeted us as soon as we checked in. The game room provided entertainment at night after a day of exploring and sightseeing. The kitchen was fully stocked and allowed us to cook some great meals! The fireplace and outdoor fire pit were wonderful additions. We just can’t say enough wonderful things about this place. The front porch had an awesome swing, rocker, hammock, and benches that provided plenty of seating for all. Having the full washer and dryer was also a great convenience. They had great fall decorations out, and the cabin was so clean and pretty. The windows provided plenty of natural light. There were also books and movies available, if you wanted it. I had to do a little work while away, and the internet was fabulous, no “lag time”, so if you need internet, it is there. Thank you to the staff of Bison Overlook Lodge for opening their ranch to others so we can all enjoy it!!

Wonderful!!

The Bison Overlook cabin was just as described and more!  Even though we knew we were on a bison farm and expected to see some animals, we were delightfully surprised to see the miniature horses and goats right at the fence in our “backyard” every morning. What a treat for the kids to feed and pet them every day. Our dog especially enjoyed being in the great outdoors and meeting up with them. The cabin felt very homey and was spacious and clean and tastefully decorated. The owners were quick to reply to our queries and to open their outpost when we needed some fire supplies and goat feed (an ample amount of firewood provided but we needed more kindling). We loved this vacation so much we are considering coming back to experience it in another season. Everyone in the area was super friendly and helpful. Places we enjoyed nearby were: the Blue Rooster for dinner, The diner on 529 (next to the Pilot gas station) for breakfast, Socco falls and the Blue Ridge Parkway drive, Cherokee and the Indian Museum, Asheville downtown, Dark Ride ghost tours, and the Biltmore. Thanks Buffalo Creek Vacations for an awesome stay! I would absolutely recommend this property.

Fun for the whole family

Definitely recommend if you are looking for a unique get-away. This is one you will remember! We stayed 5 nights in January 2016 – husband, self, 2 school-aged boys and our dog. I’m the vacation planner in my family and was thrilled when everyone gave me a thumbs up for finding this unique spot! The cabin has great views and is comfortable and clean. We liked that there are other cabins nearby, but you still have plenty of privacy. Cheryl is very responsive. One thing to note is the overall nature of a cabin – walls/floors are not soundproof. We expected this going in and it did not bother us, but keep in mind if you have people in your group who sleep/wake at different times. We all enjoyed the farm and thought the location was great for exploring the area. In addition to relaxing in the cabin & hot tub and enjoying the farm, we spent a day at Cataloochee to ski, another for snow tubing, a day around Asheville to hike and eat dinner (a dog friendly town) and drove to Cataloochee Valley for Great Smoky Mountain National Park (park was closed due to winter road conditions, but still a beautiful drive and worth our time).

We had a great stay at Bison Overlook Lodge. The cabin was wonderful and the kids really enjoyed the “private” kids playground, the game room in the basement and all the animals on the ranch. We loved taking advantage of the Kids Ski Free program during the week at Cataloochee Ski Resort as well. Cheryl was easy to work with and answered all of our questions very promptly. The adults loved the hot tub. A very nice place to unwind and relax – we would highly recommend a stay here!

Andy’s stay at Bison Escape, March 2016
We has a great time! Cheryl was very helpful when we booked the vacation, answering all our questions. When we arrived our two young kids didn’t want to leave the cabin at first (the game room was great, and even has a pet cage if you bring four legged family members) but we finally got them to head up to the feeding coral and watched the bison eat breakfast, then they fed the goats and mini horses before the short hike up the hill to the fun playground. The setting is very rustic and peaceful, with good views and a very smoky mountain feel. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the cabin had all the modern conveniences without losing any of its rustic charm. The rooms are large, the beds comfy, and the outdoor space at the cabin is great! We will be returning soon, and bringing friends this time! Highly recommended!

As seen on VRBO:
Words cannot express the joy we had when we walked into the Buffalo Bungalow!  It is EXACTLY what we needed for a couples getaway!  After we got our groceries, & picked up some bison steaks & farm fresh eggs from Cheryl’s store, the BC Outpost…we never left the cabin for 3 days!  We hiked in the morning after our coffee on the back porch, walked down the see the bison feeding.  My husband walked down to do some fishing at the Pigeon River while I did some reading, found a great book at the cabin as well.  In the evening we enjoyed some friendly games of pool, then after dinner relaxed in the hot tub!  It is exactly what we needed as a break to re charge our batteries before going back to our 3 children!    Next time we plan on bringing them & renting one of the larger family cabins…they will LOVE IT! – Denise Muller, Lynbrook, NY Summer 2015

We had a wonderful romantic honeymoon at the Buffalo Bungalow , everything and more , we never wanted to leave . The cabin (log house) was gorgeous inside and out . Cheryl made us feel very welcomed, everything was simply perfect . Thank you , Melissa and Bill April 20th, 2015

Mat said: Bison overlook was a perfect place to stay! The home was clean and spacious with lots of games to play as well. The grounds were beautiful with the animals right outside your porch practically. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway!

Exotic in N. Carolina

When we saw the Highland oxen as we pulled in we knew we were in for a surprise and it didn’t end there! In addition to the unique animals which included American bison, llamas and mini-horses we were engrossed in the beauty of the surrounding mountainsides with well constructed and comfortable cabins nestled among them. Our children thoroughly enjoyed the up close viewing of several amazing animals! Our cabin was clean, had ample space for our family and just the right amenities so as to make the stay enjoyable. The fire pits were great for roasting marshmallows and good conversation while the Jacuzzi under the moonlight was a relaxing end to our day!  — Dee from Florida

 Wonderful Secluded Log Cabin

I give the Bison Overlook a five star rating because our girls weekend was wonderful:) We loved waking up in the morning and sitting out on the balcony and looking at the mountains. It was so relaxing and peaceful. We loved the Bison Overlook because of its great views and animal welcoming party each night and morning. It was fun watching the see the bison in the hills as well as all the baby goats in our backyard! it was great! It has everything you need. Great for Families, great for singles, and great for a quiet get away. Would defiantly go back! — Lola from Germantown, MD

Fun family time!

My husband and I and our two children, (11 and 13 year olds) stayed here with our two dogs for our winter break from school. We all fell in love with the cabin the minute we saw it. We did a lot of skiing in Maggie Valley and it was only 15-20 minute drive there each day. We got very lucky and there was a lot of real snow the week we were there. It was beautiful. We all enjoyed coming back to the cabin and my son and husband would build a big fire to relax by after a long day of skiing. My daughter and I enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub as well. My kids favorite thing was definitely the animals. They would make sure we got change everyday before leaving Maggie Valley so they could get food for the animals out of the little machines and feed them each day. Cheryl and her family were all very helpful with any and all questions we had. We lost water for just a short time one afternoon but someone was out within a few minutes of reporting the issue. It was due to the extremely cold temps but was fixed immediately. We were very impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of everyone. We definitely plan to return, my daughter asked if we could move there. 🙂  — Rhonda from Georgia

Refreshing Getaway

My wife and I decided to enjoy an extended winter-weekend away to recharge and refresh ourselves. We needed a place to stay with that Bed and Breakfast appeal while preserving our need for privacy. The cabin is tucked away in a remote and scenic hillside. Our hostess Cheryl was extremely accommodating and made sure that our every question was answered prior to the trip down. Bison Overlook Lodge delivered on its promise. Our expectations for a four day and three night retreat were exceeded. If you are looking to get a break from the commotion of the work week and for a quick recharge, Bison Overlook Lodge comes highly recommended. — Damian & Cindy from Reston, VA
